Mauritius is a golfer’s paradise: courses offer challenging, breathtaking landscapes that feature rolling greens, rocky outcrops, peaceful lakes, gullies, lush vegetation and unbeatable views of Mauritius’ dramatic mountain vistas and the gorgeous surrounding Indian Ocean. With the Sun Golf programme you can choose from three exceptional golf courses that have each been designed by world champions, each with a set of unique golfing opportunities and once-in-a-lifetime golfing experiences.
Sun Golf Programme
The Sun Golf programme gives guests and golfers access to three phenomenal golf courses in Mauritius, they are Anahita, Tamarina and—of course—Ile aux Cerfs. Located on the the east and west of the island, all three courses are easily accessible by either transfer, boat and even helicopter if you’re visiting Ile aux Cerfs. All three courses have partnered with the exceptional Sun Resorts and whether you’re staying at Long Beach, Sugar Beach, Ambre or La Pirogue, you can enjoy access to one or more of these esceptional clubs.
Ile aux Cerfs
This spectacular course is designed by famous course designer, two-time Masters champion and former Ryder Cup captain Bernhard Langer. Ranked as number one in Golf World Magazine’s list of Top 20 Must Play Golf Courses in a Lifetime and ranked as Golf Journal’s Best International Golf Course, you are guaranteed an unforgettable golfing experience at this remarkable course. Ile aux Cerfs also offers an exclusive golfing experience as it spans approximately 38 hectares of the private Ile aux Cerfs island, delivering an 18-hole, par 72 course (with two playable greens on the 18th hole).
Golfers who aren’t big on travelling with their own clubs can rent gear on the island, while the benefits of a Player Service Assistant (who can help you with anything you need, from ordering some light snacks to providing you with sunscreen) mean you won’t have to worry about a single thing. A Pro Shop also exists for golfers looking to take a special memento as a symbol of the best golfing experience of their life, and an on-site golfing academy allows beginners the opportunity to experience the wonder of a round of golf in Mauritius.
Also an 18-hole, 72 par championship golf course, Tamarina Golf Club is spread over 206 hectares and was designed by the world-famous course designer and architect Rodney Wright. Enjoy views of the imposing Rempart Mountain and the contrastingly calm Tamarina Bay (where lucky guests can even enjoy the sight of dolphins frolicking in the waves), all while teeing off in paradise. The golf club offers a practice area, an academy offering the services of a PGA pro, a bar and restaurant and more. Intent on giving guests the gift of choice, each hole offers five different tee-off points: Professional, Competition, Member, Senior and Ladies. The course consists of four par 3 holes, four par 5 holes and 10 par 4 holes. The Tamarina driving range offers ten undercover bays that span forty-three thousand square metres and feature PGA-standard manicured greens.
Designed by South Africa’s very own championship golfer, Ernie Els, this 18-hole par 72 course is a challenging course that serves up large fairways with five sets of tees. Six oceanfront holes set golfers up for a final shot with a sweeping, spectacular view of the azure island waters. Along with the ocean, golfers can enjoy views of spectacular rocky outcrops contrasting with perfectly manicured greens and large native trees. The championship course caters to every level of player and is home to a grass driving range, putting and chipping greens, a professional Golf Academy and the opportunity for private or group lessons. The Golf Academy takes their golf seriously and is on-hand to ensure every golfer walks away with a new passion for the sport; learning experiences provided by the Golf Academy include full swing, short game, course management, practise techniques, golf fitness and even mental training.
