The capital city of Victoria on Mahé Island is by far the most interesting shopping destination in the Seychelles. Head to the bustling market at the city centre and peruse local artwork, jewellery, textiles and more. Be sure to buy the traditional Seychelles souvenir, the coco-de-mer, a nut from trees native to the islands. This does however require an export licence. Some larger hotels offer boutique shopping, while Praslin also features a few shopping outlets.

The beautiful Seychelles is certainly not short of breathtaking destinations and exciting things to do. Not only is it home to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, each of its islands abounds with natural beauty, history, cuisines and culture. Here is a selection of some must-see sites across the islands: UNESCO World Heritage Site: Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve UNESCO World Heritage Site: Aldabra Atoll Morne Seychellois National Park Grand Anse, Anse Coco, Anse Source d’Argent Beaches Scuba diving at Brissare Rock Hiking at Glacis La Reserves The Créole Institute La Digue Veuve Special Reserve Domaine de Val des Près (Craft Village)

More Facts

Visas and Passports

SA passport-holders do not require a visa to enter the Seychelles. Confirm your country’s visa requirements with your local embassy and ensure your passport is valid for 6 months after your visit. Honeymooners should take a copy of their marriage certificate with them. You will also need a return or onward ticket, proof of accommodation and sufficient funds for the duration of your stay. These documents will grant you a visitor’s permit that will be issued upon arrival by the Seychelles Department of Immigration.

There are very few health requirements for visiting the Seychelles. However, if you are unsure, visit your doctor 4 to 6 weeks before your holiday to ensure that you are up to date on all of your routine vaccines. There is no risk of contracting malaria in the Seychelles. Bring any chronic medication that you need, as well as an adequate supply of essentials such as painkillers, plasters, sun block, antihistamines, anti-nausea and anti-diarrheal medication. It is recommended that you only drink bottled or purified water.

Travel Insurance

You are advised to obtain travel insurance to cover any personal accidents, medical expenses, emergency repatriation, baggage loss, theft and loss of funds through cancellation or curtailment. If you plan to go diving, consider taking out a policy that covers this as well. Speak to your travel agent about the various options available.

Certain duty-free allowances such as 200 cigarettes or 250g of tobacco, 2 litres of spirits and 2 litres of wine, 200ml of Perfume or Eau de Toilette and personal electronic leisure equipment are permitted for persons over the age of 18.
